2024 Monastery Block

The 2024 Monastery Block is featured in select Vintage 2024 Collections, available through the Vintage 2024 Offer.

The Monastery Block sits on the western edge of the To Kalon Vineyard, nestled against the Mayacamas foothills and adjacent to the Carmelite monastery from which it takes its name. Crafted from select clones of Cabernet Sauvignon—685, 31, and 169—and rooted in well‑drained gravelly soils, this wine captures a classic Oakville expression marked by rich black fruit, mineral undertones, and refined floral accents. The 2024 release is elegant and classically styled, offering a generous, layered texture with freshness and purity that reflect the character of this exceptional site.

Monastery Block, a part of our To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, is home to some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in California. Dry farmed in the highly gravelly soil, the block is nestled into the foothills of the Mayacamas next to the Carmelite monastery from which it takes its name. Great wines start with great vineyards and a great winemaker. For nearly two decades, we have researched, trialed, and procured what we feel are the finest vineyard sites for producing benchmark Cabernets in the Napa Valley. This new exploration is truly worthy of the Schrader name.

As vintage 2024 makes its way to bottle, it is shaping up to be what many in Napa Valley are calling a classic—depth of flavor, beautifully structured, and evocative of the terroir we cherish. Generous winter rains laid the groundwork for the season, easing the impact of summer heat, while warm days and cool nights culminated in a confident, well-timed harvest that allowed each site to express its fullest potential.

As winemakers, we rarely get vintages that feel close to perfection, but 2024 was one of those years where color, depth, and vibrancy came together with remarkable balance—yielding fruit that promises compelling wines with both immediate presence and long-term cellar potential.
