2023 To Kalon Vineyard

Our To Kalon Vineyard bottling is produced from select clones–15, 7, and 685–of Cabernet Sauvignon and sourced from a section of the vineyard that is planted on soils containing ancient marine sediment and an alluvial fan that provides excellent mineral deposits. Full-bodied with concentrated black and purple fruit, the wine balances powerful fruit with elegant floral and spice notes, fresh acidity, and firm ripe tannins.

99 Pts. “From the more northern part of To Kalon, just behind the Mondavi Vineyard and touching Beckstoffer's section, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard offers ripe blackcurrants, hints of cassis, sweet tobacco, chocolate, and spicy nuances that give it a complex, nuanced, incredibly layered profile. It hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, lush mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. Drink this sexy, voluptuous, hedonistic effort over the coming 20 years. Drink 2025-2045.”

  • Vineyard

First planted in 1868 by viticultural and winemaking icon Hamilton Crabb, To Kalon Vineyard has long been regarded as the source of Napa Valley’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Within the prime vineyard blocks, an alluvial fan provides excellent and varied mineral deposits, and the rich soils are filled with marine sediment that gives our wines their distinctive profiles. The vines receive full sun and optimal heat during the day and are cooled by marine fog at night. These conditions allow the Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the vineyard to display its own unique character, and this celebration of individuality is the essence of Schrader.

2023 blessed us with what will surely become one of Schrader's most celebrated vintages. Napa Valley experienced its longest growing season in over a decade, with mild, consistent temperatures that allowed for extended hang time and generous yields. These ideal conditions fostered exceptional fruit development, producing wines of unprecedented depth, harmony, and structure. As winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown notes, "It should end up being one of the best vintages of Schrader we've ever bottled."
