2023 TKS

A new addition to the Schrader Cellars portfolio with the 2023 vintage. This wine reflects winemaker Thomas River Brown's dedication to capturing the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted exclusively from the historic To Kalon Vineyard, originally planted in 1868 by Hamilton Crabb. Exceptional soils, full sun, and cooling marine fog create ideal conditions for a Cabernet of remarkable depth. Rich dark fruit, elegant floral and spice notes, and ripe tannins highlight Schrader’s distinctive character, with TKS standing out as a remarkable addition to our portfolio.

97-100 Pts “From the southernmost parcels in the To Kalon Vineyard and a new cuvée, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard TKS is inky hued and has a sensational nose of cassis, currants, crushed violets, graphite, and crushed stone. It's massive on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a huge amount of polished tannins, and flawless overall balance. The entire lineup of 2023s from Schrader are truly special, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one be the crème de la crème.”

  • Vineyard

First planted in 1868 by viticultural and winemaking icon Hamilton Crabb, To Kalon Vineyard has long been regarded as the source of Napa Valley’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Within the prime vineyard blocks, an alluvial fan provides excellent and varied mineral deposits, and the rich soils are filled with marine sediment that gives our wines their distinctive profiles. The vines receive full sun and optimal heat during the day and are cooled by marine fog at night. These conditions allow the Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the vineyard to display its own unique character, and this celebration of individuality is the essence of Schrader.

2023 blessed us with what will surely become one of Schrader's most celebrated vintages. Napa Valley experienced its longest growing season in over a decade, with mild, consistent temperatures that allowed for extended hang time and generous yields. These ideal conditions fostered exceptional fruit development, producing wines of unprecedented depth, harmony, and structure. As winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown notes, "It should end up being one of the best vintages of Schrader we've ever bottled."
