Year after year, we marvel at the brilliance of the Beckstoffer estates and the ability of the vines to handle the extreme weather without issue. This fact was especially true in 2008. We suffered virtually no frost damage or pre-harvest heat dehydration and were able to bring in an exceptional Cabernet harvest with on-target yields and ultimately produce a portfolio of wines comparable to those from the legendary 2007 vintage.

  • Tasting Notes

    We kept our fingers crossed and held our breath until the last picking bin came in from the vineyard, as the growing season was marked by a series of weather extremes. The season began with an exceptionally dry winter which was followed by some of most severe frost events the Napa Valley had seen in decades (some wineries lost up to 80% of their crop). Moving into late spring, there were a series of higher than normal temperatures during bloom which caused "shatter" or irregular berry and cluster formation in some sections of the valley. Thankfully, we enjoyed moderate temperatures through mid-summer until a wallop of blistering heat spikes hit at the beginning of harvest. The good news was that after the big pop of heat in early September, the weather settled into an ideal groove of mild, warm days and cool nights that continued through harvest and allowed us to achieve super-ripeness and maturity.   • Vineyard

    Located in Rutherford on the east side of the valley floor, the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard boasts a pedigreed history that dates back to the late 1800s. We source the grapes for our Schrader GIII from a small, specific section of the vineyard that was formerly a natural riverbed. The gentle slope and unique gravel and rock composition of this block produces stunning fruit with phenomenal concentration and character. We truly feel we have found the ideal “sweet spot” of this historic vineyard estate.
