2019 Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon Named #1 Wine of 2022
We are beyond thrilled to share the news that Wine Spectator has named our 2019 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon the #1 wine of the year for 2022.
James Molesworth, of Wine Spectator, writes that Double Diamond “provides an emphatic answer to the Napa Cabernet value question, punching above its weight while costing well below the triple-digit entry point for top-flight Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. And it comes from Schrader Cellars, […] whose winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, is acknowledged as one of the valley’s best.”
At Schrader Cellars, our single-minded focus on quality and provenance has always been at the heart of our winemaking efforts and extends to Double Diamond, as well. Sourced from prime vineyards in the Oakville AVA, including young-vine blocks of famed To Kalon, Double Diamond is crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown using the same attention to detail as he brings to Schrader Cellars.
Ready to enjoy upon release, Double Diamond also has the potential to age gracefully if cellared. That, however, demands a certain level of self-control to overcome the temptation to indulge in the wine’s sumptuous red fruit profile, interwoven with notes of savory sweet bay, cassis, and plum that make the wine a delight upon release.
“With the pedigree of a great vineyard under the hand of a great winemaker, a second wine should never be overlooked,” Molesworth wrote of Double Diamond. “For its compelling combination of quality and price in a category that is awash in expense-account bottlings, the Schrader Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Double Diamond 2019 is our Wine of the Year for 2022.”
Please join us in raising a glass of Double Diamond and toasting this extraordinary achievement.
