  • Accolades

97 Pts. “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer George III Vineyard, which comes from the Beckstoffer-owned vineyard in Rutherford and clone 337, exhibits an opaque purple color and a beautiful nose of creosote, graphite, charcoal, blackberry and blueberry. It’s dense, full-bodied and opulent, with great acidity and sweet, well-integrated tannins. It is approachable now, but promises to be at its best with another 7-8 years of bottle age and last 25-30 years.”
    — Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

97 Pts. “This is a chewy and powerful red with lots of tannins. Aromas of dried flowers, grape skin and currants. Full body, chewy texture. Refreshing with coolness. Needs so much time in the bottle. Try in 2022.”

  • Vineyard

Located in Rutherford on the east side of the valley floor, the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard boasts a pedigreed history that dates back to the late 1800s. We source the grapes for our Schrader GIII from a small, specific section of the vineyard that was formerly a natural riverbed. The gentle slope and unique gravel and rock composition of this block produces stunning fruit with phenomenal concentration and character. We truly feel we have found the ideal “sweet spot” of this historic vineyard estate.

In 2013 the grapes enjoyed month upon glorious month of effortless sunny days followed by clear, cool nights. Warm spring temperatures gave way to an early budbreak and the consistent, dry weather afforded an optimal fruit set. The favorable conditions seamlessly continued through the summer and we faced none of the rogue heat spikes or rain threats that might otherwise challenge a strong vintage. Once in barrel, the wine continued to develop and gain profound flavors that led to winemaker Thomas Brown stating “These are the finest wines I have ever made.”
